Marquis
D. Johns
He was born in Los Angeles, California and
is pursuing his Bachelor's Degree in Theology at Oakwood University
where he has served as the USM's Religious Vice President and currently
as Oakwood University’s AYS Director, while simultaneously serving as
Head Chaplain’s Assistant, and conducting a weekly Bible study on campus
called Dunamis. Before receiving God’s call to ministry Johns found
himself in a world that had no hope.
He dropped out of school, spent time in
jail, sold drugs, and became a rap artist. Eventually his insatiable
appetite for knowledge, found him dabbling in the occult. In 2002,
through the power of prayer, the Holy Spirit spoke God’s call on Johns
life through a friend. After accepting Christ as his |
| Lord and Savior, Johns
committed himself to Literature Evangelism and Bible Work.
He attended and graduated from the Amazing
Facts Center of Evangelism, and completed a one year practicum under the
tutelage of Pastor Doug Bachelor. The Lord then led Johns to Yale,
Virginia where he served as a Bible worker but eventually became the
churches interim Pastor. His passion for working with young people took
him to Salem, West Virginia where he assumed the role of Bible Teacher
and Chaplain for the Miracle Meadows School for At-Risk Youth. In
2005, Johns founded The Straight Testimony, a church supporting
independent ministry which has taken him all over the world witnessing
to young and old alike.
The relevance of The Straight Testimony has
been extensively covered in the media, yielding interviews on 3ABN's
'Today' by Danny Shelton, as well as appearances on 3ABN's 'Faith
Chapel'. In 2006, Johns was called to serve as the Assistant Pastor of
the Northeast S.D.A church in Charlotte, NC. There, under the expert
hand of Pastor Ezra J. Mendinghall, God continued to develop the gifts
He has given him. It was Pastor Ezra Mendinghall’s, encouragement and
guidance that led Elder Johns to enroll in Oakwood University, where his
gifts could continue to be cultivated and developed that he may aid in
finishing the work.
