Casual Sabbath Was Not Casual
The first Casual
Sabbath at Living Faith Church was held on July 5, 2008. More than 250
worshipers came to Sabbath School and Divine Worship dressed down. Members
did not have on coats, hats, ties, and high heels. The special Sabbath
launched Barrington Brennen’s summer pulpit series "Why Are You an
Adventist?" Casual Sabbath was organized to remind the members that "While
humankind look on the outside, God looks on the inside. True worship is a
service of the heart. What’s on the inside must influence what’s on the
outside and not the other way around." Servant Brennen was
dressed in a shirt jacket, pants, and sandals without soaks. It
certainly suited the warm weather that day.
Although members came to church dressed
casually the worship experience was certainly not casual. The new pulpit
series began an in depth study of the fundamental beliefs of the Seventh-day
Adventist Church. The listeners were asked to think about the real reasons
they are Adventists.
